Altai Krai amazes tourists with its beauty -unforgettable landscapes, green meadows, clean water. The sandy river is one of the main attractions of this area. It received its name for a reason. The river waters are washed by huge stones, therefore, sand banks are often found here.
Location:
Sandy river has its origins in twentykilometers from the Republic of Altai - not far from the village of Besh-Ozek. It is the right tributary of the Ob. The river flows near the Seminsky Pass at an altitude of 1700 meters. After the village of Kuagan the reservoir falls into the gorge with a large number of rapids. Sandy beaches of the river can be observed only after it leaves the mountains. At 15 kilometers from the confluence of the Biya and the Katun, the Sandy River flows into the Ob. On her way she crosses various areas of Altai. The sand flows through the territories of Soloneshensky, Ondugaysky, Smolensky and Shebalinsky districts.
The river Peschanaya (Altai) has the following boundaries:
- in the east - Cherginsky Range;
- in the south, the Seminsky and Tenekty ridges;
- in the west - Anayan ridge.

Sandy river was very popular among tourists.in the middle of the 20th century, then fans of extreme sports were actively rafting along it. Plots with fast current and rapids tourists did not always pass successfully. This route was considered very difficult, if not to say, a turning point for athletes. But this is what Sandy River is known for. The tactics of rafting in athletes was different: someone was lucky, but someone was not.
Today it is a popular venue forrafting competitions. For more than 10 years, athletes from all over Russia and foreign countries have come here to compete for prizes and medals. Together with lovers of rafting comes a large audience of spectators and fans. During the competition, the desert territory of Altai turns into a populous complex. A favorite place among tourists is a canyon with a cascade of obstacles. The most famous rapids of the river - "Jaws", "Mane", "Pink Bom". The area of the sandy basin is 5660 sq. m. The length of the river - 276 kilometers.
In addition to athletes, lovers of fishing come to the Altai Territory. Here are the following types of fish:

Flora and fauna
The banks of the river are covered with forests. On the flat terrain you can often find birch and aspen, in mountainous areas - larch and cedar forests. Historically, near the coast there were many villages and villages. Now the inhabited points there are Solonovka, Ilyinka, Peschanoe, Krasny Gorodok, Sychevka, Linevskiy, Kuyagan, Tourak, Baragash, Aleksandrovskoye, Grinding, Shargayt, Novotyryshkino and Smolensk.
Near the river basin grows largethe amount of medicinal herbs and plants. On the edges you can find oregano, wild onion, Badan, turnip, rhubarb. Berries grow in forest areas: currants, strawberries, hawthorn, raspberries, blackberries, mountain ash and red currant. In spring, the banks of the river are covered with floral carpets and white bird cherry. Also near Sandy a large number of mushrooms grows, gatherers always leave with full baskets of butter, aspen mushrooms, raw and white mushrooms, waves, boletus mushrooms.
The fauna of the Altai region near the river is veryvaried. Wolves, hares, badgers, and foxes live here. The closer to the mountains, the more elk, deer, goats and sheep are found. There are not so many winged representatives here - sandpiper, little bastard, lark, waterfowl, steppe eagle.

However, for traveling in this area you need a car with high ground clearance, as some areas are littered with large stones. This place is popular among Russian tourists, often children's festivals and concerts are held here.
Getting to the mouth of the river is even more difficult. Here the car will not help, since there is not a single road. Admire the picturesque places of the mouth of the Sand can only be mounted on a horse. You can also swim there by boat. This area has an amazing landscape with many floodplain lakes where waterfowl nest.
The terrain where the Sandy River flows is veryvaried. The rapid run of water changes in a slow current. The river washes huge rocks and heaps of stones, forms sand banks and flows past steep bombs. It is very difficult to describe this beauty with words, it’s better to see it with your own eyes.
