If the speakers do not work

Computers

It would seem that it can be simpler than devicesfor sound reproduction, better known as speakers! It's difficult to break them. However, the forums now and then ask the question "why do not the speakers work on the computer." This allows us to state that the problem exists and requires a solution. This is what we are going to talk about today, and we will help to find and fix the malfunctions.

Since we are talking about computer speakers, more details on the theoretical basis. There are two ways to output audio: digital and analog. The first involves connecting to the computer an external hardware decoder of a digital signal through the SPDIF connector or modern HDMI. Digital data is transmitted to the decoder, and it converts them into an analog signal, which then goes to the speakers. This method of connection provides a more qualitative and clear sound, but it requires financial expenses for the purchase of the decoder. Surprisingly, many video adapters can output sound, but to hear it you just need an external hardware converter.

The second way is classic. When using it, the work on converting a digit / analogue is assigned to the logic built into the sound card - the same decoder, but with only basic functions. The speakers are connected to a standard 3.5 mm jack (almost all headphones come with this one).

Although these methods have much in common, theless, each has its own peculiarities that determine why the speakers do not work. The method for determining the malfunction of systems with six or more speakers is similar to the method for stereo (two).

If one column does not work, the search for damageyou should start with the simplest thing - checking the quality of the wire connection. When using an external amplifier (which is also a subwoofer, in combination) the speakers are connected to it by spring-loaded clips. Insufficiently stripped wire or bad pressing - and the sound disappears. The same applies to a digital connection, only in this case the connections from the decoder to the columns and from the computer to the decoder are checked. Inexpensive desktop speakers without a subwoofer (office) can be damaged in two places: inside the wire under insulation and in a 3.5 mm plug (this is the real "sore point"). It is necessary to turn on music or other constant sound and at the same time to loosen the wire going to the dead column. Often this helps. The damaged area needs to be cut and replaced. It's trite, but sometimes the speakers do not work normally if the plug is not completely inserted into the socket. It should be pulled out and inserted correctly.

Sometimes on the columns there is a regulator, redirecting sound to one of them. You need to make sure that it is in a neutral position. Damage to the speaker itself or one of the amplifier channels is extremely rare, so the cause is usually "on the surface".

Also columns do not work if there are errors in theprogram part. A sound card can play sound only after installing the driver for it. It can be downloaded from the Internet or installed from a disk that comes with a computer.

Owners of systems with Realtek HDA and othersembedded audio codecs often want to know why the speakers do not work. The trouble is that the good idea of the developers, allowing to determine the fact of connection of the playback device (Jack Detect), turned into a headache for users. If the speakers were turned off while installing the drivers, and the connector is connected, then turning them on, the long-awaited sound can not be heard. This is solved quite simply: when the computer and speakers are turned on (do not forget to remove the sound to a minimum), you should reconnect the plug to the connector. The definition and autotune work. Of course, do not confuse the connectors: the CCC (Color Coded Connector) system has been used for a long time, when the connectors and plugs are painted in the appropriate colors, you just need to be careful when connecting and not violating the color ratio.
