Toyota is a Japanese car company.Modifications of many of its models were often singled out as independent families, which continued to be produced for several generations. One of the cars that gave rise to several other models was the sedan "Cressida".

History of creation

In 1980, the Japanese automotive giant decidedbuild a luxury model on the platform "Cressida" ("Toyota Mark II"). "Chaser", "Cresta" - the result of this idea. The novelties differed not only in design, but also in a wide choice of additional equipment, the quality of materials in the cabin and the technical parameters of the model.

For the production of "Toyota Cresta" (X-50, X-60)used a rear-drive platform from the "Cressida", the wheelbase of which was 3 mm longer. Dimensions of cars were also different: the body of "Cresta" was shorter than that of the older congeners, the width is the same, and the height increased by 55 mm.

Technical parameters were not the main onesdistinctive features of the novelty. The car was aimed at wealthy buyers. Halogen headlamps, fog lights, expensive and high-quality interior trim materials and upholstery - all this was included in the basic equipment of "Cresta". The car was equipped with a 2-liter petrol or diesel engine, working in conjunction with a 4-speed "automatic", borrowed from the model "Crown".

The second generation (X-70)

1984 was marked for the Japanese company by the release of the second generation "Cresta".

The design of the car has changed: the shapes of the radiator grille and the hood have been transformed, and the side mirrors (with electric drive) have been transferred from the front wings to the side doors.

In addition, the wheelbase of the carincreased by 15 mm - up to 2660 mm. The gasoline engine was improved. In place of the 2-liter diesel unit came a 2.4-liter engine. The transmission remained unchanged, this is a 4-speed automatic transmission. In 1985, the model underwent restyling, during which integrated front foglights appeared on the front bumper. In the same year, a turbocharged version of the 2-liter petrol engine was launched.

The third generation (X-80)

In 1988, the world saw the third generation of the "Toyota Cresta". The feedback of the car owners confirmed that the company is moving in the right direction.

The model has changed both externally and internally.The upgraded platform with a wheelbase increased to 2739 mm has changed the dimensions of the car. Its dimensions allowed to make the interior more spacious, especially the rear passengers were added. The model was equipped with petrol 2 and 2.5-liter engines or a 2.4-liter diesel engine. Changes have occurred in the cabin: there are more comfortable seats, four-spoke steering wheel. The central console with the dashboard merged into a single complex.

After 2 years, a special, jubilee series was issued, featuring interior trim, seat upholstery and an appropriate badge.

The fourth generation (X-90)

In 1992, "Toyota" introduced the fourth generation of "Cresta", significantly different from the previous generation.

Changed the grille, bumpers, frontoptics "Toyota Cresta". The characteristics of the car were also transformed. The wheelbase of the car has not changed, which can not be said about the dimensions: the length of the body increased by 60 mm - up to 4750, width - by 55 mm - to 1750 mm, and height - by 15 mm - to 1390 mm. The fifth generation (X-100)

In 1996, the last, fifth generation of the model was released, until the year 2001, after which it was replaced by Verossa.

"Cresta" of the fourth and fifth generations is difficultcalled one model, as the design of the car has changed radically: smoother body shapes, a changed nose and a U-shaped radiator grille that replaced the trapezoidal one.
