This article describes theantiallergic drug "Kestin". The instructions for use refer to the following clinical and pharmacological group: "histamine receptor blockers - H1, antiallergic agents." The drug is taken orally, after which an antiallergic effect develops within an hour. The drug lasts up to two days.

The active substance in the preparation is ebastine. Its content in one tablet is 10/20 mg, in 5 ml of solution - 5 mg. The drug "Kestin" analogs are absent.

The course of treatment is five days, but the actionactive metabolites of the drug continues 72 hours after its completion. Sedative and anticholinergic effects are not clearly expressed during treatment with Kestin: the instructions for use do not indicate its effect on the QT interval during ECG, even at doses of 80 mg. With simultaneous intake with food, an increase in the concentration of carbastine in the blood is observed 1.5 - 2 times, which does not affect the clinical properties of the drug.

Among the indications for the administration of the drug "Kestin" the instruction for use calls the following:

  • rhinitis allergic seasonal / year-round, provoked by such allergens: food, epidermal, medicinal, pollen and others;
  • urticaria, provoked by the above allergens, as well as the influence of cold, sun and other factors.

Contraindications to the use of this antihistamine drug is hypersensitivity, as well as:

  • Pregnancy / lactation.
  • Age is less than six years.
  • Increased QT-interval, hypokalemia, hepatic / renal failure - appointed with caution.

With regard to treatment of pregnant women with antihistamineKestin's application instruction specifies that it is not recommended because of the lack of investigation of its effect on this category of patients. Also, its effect on the body during lactation and the possibility of penetration of the active component of the drug-ebastin-into the breast milk has not been studied. When elderly patients were admitted, there was no change in pharmacokinetic parameters.

Dosage: The drug is taken once a day. Adult patients and children over 15 years of age are prescribed 1 to 2 tablets. or 10 to 20 ml of the agent in the form of a syrup. For children aged 12 to 15 years, the dosage is 1 tablet or 10 ml of syrup. The daily dose in this case, if necessary, can be increased to 20 ml. Dose for children from 6 to 12 years - 5 mg per reception (half a pill or syrup - 5 ml).

It is forbidden to exceed the daily dose (10 mg) atappointment of the facility to patients with liver dysfunction. In the case of an overdose of the antihistamine drug described, it is recommended to wash the stomach and observe the victim within 24 hours.

As for the interaction with othermeans of preparation "Kestin", the instruction on application indicates undesirable simultaneous its appointment with erythromycin, ketoconazole. With the following drugs, no significant interactions were detected: "Diazepam", "Theophylline", "Cimetidine", as well as indirect coagulants and ethanol.

Others specify: this drug allows you to cope with various allergies - including citrus, pollen, cat hair.
